Midgaard
|
 |
This city is straight south from Freyburg, and leads west to the old forest of
Haon-Dor. The town is a good place for rich adventurers, as there is a lot of
trade and training available in there. The mayor patrols the gates, and the
streets are protected by Peacekeepers and city guards who keep the peace. There
is a graveyard and a park to be visited there, and many paths lead away to other
places from Midgaard.
"Ah, midgaard, pearl of Keorangar! What wonderful city it is, living, and
sparkling from all such loveliness! Its beautiful park, and live markets for
people like me make it a friendly ground for a good trade. Sure, the path from
Freyburg over the Miden'Nir is not for the faint of heart, but the high profit
pays for the risk..."
- Herwadon Breslii, touring merchant
Midgaard is a metropolis of the rich merchants, who organised themself into
secret guilds and bonds. They were the ones to bring forward Freyburg as a
garrison once, and also the funders of the theatre which was built in
Freyburg. Furthermore they are responsible for the lovely parks in the southern
part of Midgaard. So while there is a mayor in Midgaard, no one even remembers
why he is, nor how he became it. The real power lies in the hands of the
merchants.
Although the city is not in as perfect situation as is Freyburg, still a lot of
trade, be it via road or via river, is occuring in Midgaard, and helps feed the
city and its inhabitants. Sometimes Midgaard is called the 'southern knot', as
nearly all regions in the south of Keorangar are reached via Midgaard. The
typical inhabitant of Midgaard is human, and very complacent.

note that is it quite a large image (250k) ).
